Tayyar Ozkan

Tayyar Ozkan
Ozkan grew up in Turkey (Anatolia) and published his first caricatures in a local political newspaper in 1978. In the following years, his drawings appeared in several newspapers and joke magazines. He also designed children's books and greeting cards.
In 1989 Ozkan moved to the USA to work as a graphic and textile designer. Today he lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. His first comic works in the "New World" were published in the magazine World War 3.
His own development "Caveman" was first published in 1993 in the popular Heavy Metal magazine. In 1997 the NBM-Verlag grouped various Caveman adventures to a scrapbook.
In 1994, the DC album "La Pacifica" with the authors Joel Rose and Amos Poe was released with more than 280 pages. He also inked four editions of "The Dreaming" for Vertigo/DC.
But back to Ozkan's erotic creative work. The following issues were published almost exclusively by the American publisher Eros Comix Verlag: Bushwhacked Orient Sexpress 1-4 Cave Bang 1-4 Pet Fleshpot (Illustrations-Collection) Lewd Moana.
Further works by him can be admired in various American magazines such as Screw, Hustler, the Spanish penthouse COMIX and the Italian BLUE.
Convinced of a success, Ozkan even published his comic series "Caveman" himself. A hardcover edition was also published in France by 2L Productions. The Caveman comic series has made its way from America and Spain (2001, Dude Comics) to Turkey. The series is published in major newspapers such as Yeni Yuzyil and Radikal.
His latest creation is the funny comic series "CAVE´N". He is also interested in animated film and animation.
In order to pass on his knowledge and skills, Ozkan teaches comic art classes at the School of Visual Arts in New York. (Source to here: Ozkans Homepage)
The short story series Cave Bang gets along without any dialogues and entertains the reader "only" with its pictorial wit. In all of his comic series, a certain "joke magazine character style" cannot be overlooked. Cave Bang plays with the theme "The comic parallelism of everyday life between prehistoric man and modern man". Cave Bang is humorous and not excessively equipped with hardcore elements. The whole thing keeps itself on the level of "hearty cartoons of jokes".
In "Orient Sexpress" and in "Lewd Moana", Ozkan himself appears as a person drawn to give humorous allusions to his Turkish/Islamic homeland as a narrator of his frivolous "1000 and one night" stories.
The booklet "Pet" is less hardcore comix, but much more mature in its style. If "Cave Bang" and "Orient Sexpress" have an underground touch like Robert Crumb, Pet goes more towards Manara and George Pichard style. |
