Jean-Pierre Gibrat

Der französische Künstler wurde am 17. April 1954 (*) in Paris geboren.
Nach einem Philosophie-Studium (bis 1972) folgte eine zweijährige Ausbildung als Werbegrafiker und ein Kunst-Studium (1975 bis 1977), das er jedoch nach zwei Jahren abbrach. In dieser Zeit des Umbruchs - sprich im Jahr 1977 - erschien auch seine erste Kurzgeschichte La limousine du Limousin im Magazin Pilote (#42) (das berühmte französische Magazin erschien in den Jahren 1959 bis 1989). Diese wurde später ins Album "Visions fûtées" gepackt.

Im folgenden Jahr entwickelte Gibrat mit dem Autoren Jackie Berroyer die Serie Goudard, dessen erste Geschichte "Dossier Goudard" zuerst im Magazin B.D. - L´Hebdo de la B.D. erschien und ein Jahr später auch ins Magazin Charlie Mensuel übernommen wurde. Beiträge über "Goudard" landeten zudem im Fluide Glacial Magazin (1980).

"La Parisienne" erschien 1982 im Pilote Magazin. Auch diese Geschichte erfuhr einen Zweitabdruck in Charlie Mensuel. Ein Hauptcharakter aus "La Parisienne" wurde später in ein neues "Goudard" Album mit dem Titel "Goudard et la parisienne" übernommen.

Im Sammelband Les années Goudard von 2006 kann der Leser mehr darüber erfahren, warum Professeur Choron der eigentliche Initiator der Serie ist, wie sich Berroyer und Gibrat kennenlernten und warum verschiedene Verlage die Reihe veröffentlichten. Dieser Band beinhaltet die Einzelalben "La Parisienne", "Goudard et la Parisienne" und "Goudard a de la chance".

Gibrats anspruchsvolle Art zu zeichnen und seine Charaktere in Szene zu setzen ergänzten sich hervorragend mit den psychologisch ausgearbeiteten und bodenständigen Dialogen von Jackie Berroyer.

Sein Zeichenstil strahlt den "typisch" französischen Comic-Flair aus, ist vorwiegend skizzenhaft inszeniert und wird traditionell mit Aquarellfarben in die richtige (Licht-)Stimmung versetzt.

Zwischenzeitlich arbeitete Gibrat immer wieder als Illustrator für Fachblätter wie "l'Evénement du jeudi", "le Nouvel Obs" oder "Sciences et Avenir".

Zusammen mit dem Autor Guy Videl und später mit Dominique Leguillier entstanden drei Alben "Médecins sans frontières" (Ärzte ohne Grenzen), veröffentlicht bei Bayard Èditions/Okapi.

Für die erotische Album-Reihe Fripon - herausgegeben von Les Humanoïdes Associés - zeichnete Gibrat zwei gefühlvolle und charmante Beiträge: "Avant la messe" und "Carole fait ses courses".

1995 erschien bei L'Écho des Savanes (Albin Michel) eines seiner bekanntesten Alben: Pinocchia. Zusammen mit Autor Francis Leroi entstand eine einfühlsame und erotische Variation des Pinocchio-Stoffes von Carlo Collodi. Statt eines kleinen Jungen schnitzt Geppetto für seine alten Tage eine hübsche junge Frau - eine Art "Do-it-yourself-Liebespuppe" aus Holz. Doch staatliche Mächte, gesellschaftliche Vorbehalte und egoistische Umtriebe führen die menschgewordene, leicht naive Pinocchia hinaus in die Welt, fort von ihrem geliebten "Vater". Obwohl sie ihrem Schicksal bzw. ihrer "Herkunft" zuerst nicht entfliehen kann, versucht Pinocchia selbstbewusst ihren eigenen Weg zu gehen. Der führt sie sogar unter Wasser auf ein U-Boot-Bordell. Und sollte sie einmal Lügen müssen, so schwillt ihr zwar nicht die Nase, dafür aber das Dekolleté. Erst ein paar strafende Züchtigungen normalisieren wieder ihre Maße.

Ein Jahr später entstand "Marée Basse", zusammen mit Autor Daniel Pecqueu. Der bei Dargaud erschienene Comic spielt in einem unwirklichen Venedig das von wundersamen Charakteren bevölkert wird.

Aufmerksamkeit und Anerkennung erlangte Gibrat durch seine erfolgreichen Bände Le Sursis (1997 und 1999) mit ihrer Heldin Cécile, sowie durch Le Vol du Corbeau (2002 und 2005) mit der Figur (und Céciles Schwester) Jeanne. Diese Comicalben betreute Gibrat bereits in Personalunion als Autor und Zeichner.

Die beiden Reihen gewannen die Herzen von Fans und Juroren gleichermaßen; darunter den Preis des Festivals Saint-Malo in 2004 und von d'Angoulême in 2006.
Interessanterweise hatte Gibrat zusammen mit Berroyer Jahrzehnte zuvor (genauer 1979) den Nachwuchspreis beim Festival von d'Angoulême empfangen.
2003 erhielt Gibrat den Prix Albert Uderzo Preis, sowie 2010 den Grand Prix Festival BD de Blois für sein Lebenswerk.
Neben Preisen und Ehrungen werden in Frankreich immer wieder auch Ausstellungen mit den Werken von Gibrat organisiert; wie zum Beispiel 2008 in der Gallerie Daniel Maghen.

Gibrats weibliche Charaktere zeichnen sich durch Charme, Witz, Eleganz und Liebreiz aus - vermitteln gleichermaßen Zärtlichkeit, Finesse, Stärke und Sinnlichkeit.
Obwohl seine erotischen Szenen nicht wirklich explizit sind, versteht er es jedoch geschickt verschiedene Aspekte der Erotik in die anspruchsvollen Erzählungen einzubauen und in leidenschaftlichen schönen Bildern zu illustrieren.

Jean-Pierre Gibrat

The French artist was born in Paris on 17. April 1954 (*) in Paris.

After studying philosophy (until 1972), he completed a two-year apprenticeship as a graphic designer and an art degree (1975 to 1977), which he ended after two years. During this period of upheaval - in 1977 - his first short story La limousine du Limousin appeared in the magazine Pilote (#42) (the famous French magazine was published between 1959 and 1989). This was later packed into the album "Visions fûtées".

In the following year, Gibrat developed the series Goudard with the author Jackie Berroyer, whose first story "Dossier Goudard" was first published in the magazine B. D. L´Hebdo de la B. D. and one year later it was also taken over into the magazine Charlie Mensuel. Contributions about "Goudard" also ended up in Fluide Glacial magazine (1980).

"La Parisienne" appeared in the Pilote magazine in 1982. This story also received a second print in Charlie Mensuel. A main character from "La Parisienne" was later included in a new "Goudard" album entitled "Goudard et la parisienne".

In the collection Les années Goudard from 2006, the reader can learn more about why Professor Choron is the actual initiator of the series, how Berroyer and Gibrat got to know each other and why different publishers published the series. This volume contains the single albums "La Parisienne","Goudard et la Parisienne" and "Goudard a de la chance".

Gibrat's sophisticated style of drawing and staging his characters complemented each other excellently with Jackie Berroyer's psychologically elaborate and down-to-earth dialogues.

His drawing style radiates the "typical" French comic flair, is predominantly sketchy and is traditionally set in the right (light) mood with watercolours.

In the meantime, Gibrat has repeatedly worked as an illustrator for trade journals such as "l' Evénement du jeudi","le Nouvel Obs" or "Sciences et Avenir".

Together with the author Guy Videl and later with Dominique Leguillier, three albums "Médecins sans frontières" (Medicines Without Borders) were released by Bayard Èditions/Okapi.

For the erotic album series Fripon - edited by Les Humanoïdes Associés - Gibrat drew two soulful and charming contributions:"Avant la messe" and "Carole fait ses courses".

In 1995, L' Écho des Savanes (Albin Michel) released one of his most famous albums: Pinocchia. Together with author Francis Leroi, a sensitive and erotic variation of the Pinocchio fabric by Carlo Collodi was created. Instead of a little boy, Geppetto carves a pretty young woman - a kind of "do-it-yourself love doll" - out of wood for his old days. But state powers, social reservations and selfish impulses lead the humanized, slightly naïve Pinocchia out into the world, away from her beloved "father". Although she cannot escape her fate or her "origin" at first, Pinocchia tries to follow her own path with self-confidence. He even leads them underwater to a submarine brothel. And if she should have to lie, you won't swell your nose, but the cleavage will. Only a few punitive punishments return to normal dimensions.

One year later "Marée Basse"was created together with author Daniel Pecqueu. The comic, published by Dargaud, takes place in an unreal Venice populated by miraculous characters.

Gibrat gained attention and recognition through his successful volumes Le Sursis (1997 and 1999) with her heroine Cécile, and Le Vol du Corbeau (2002 and 2005) with the figure (and Céciles sister) Jeanne. These comicals were already supervised by Gibrat as author and artist.

The two series won the hearts of fans and jurors alike, including the Saint-Malo Festival Prize in 2004 and the d' Angoulême Prize in 2006.

Interestingly, Gibrat and Berroyer had received the young talent award together with Berroyer decades earlier (more precisely 1979) at the Festival of Angoulême.

In 2003 Gibrat was awarded the Prix Albert Uderzo Prize and in 2010 the Grand Prix Festival BD de Blois for his life's work.

In addition to awards and honours, exhibitions with the works of Gibrat are also regularly organised in France, such as in 2008 in the Daniel Maghen Gallery.

Gibrat's female characters are characterised by charm, wit, elegance and charm - they convey tenderness, finesse, strength and sensuality at the same time.

Although his erotic scenes are not really explicit, he knows how to incorporate various aspects of eroticism into the sophisticated narratives and illustrate them in passionate beautiful pictures.
