Fuckfriends of Fuzzy Donkey

An interesting "One-Heft-Wonder" was the English comic book "Fuckfriends", published in 2003.

The comic is instantly inspiring with its fresh and cheeky presentation, as well as the content of its lovely characters.

The friends Ingrid, Sven, Jim, Barbara, Stella and Chris are quite relaxed and enjoy each other's sex at every opportunity. Whether at home, at the stand or at the camping site, the cheerful troupe will hardly ever get bored.

The 24-page comic booklet contains five short stories.

In "The Initiation" blonde Barbara introduces her new boyfriend Jim. Jim is tested by Ingrid and Stella for his "sturdiness" rather quickly.

On the beach in the story "The Bet" the women put on a little bet. They want to try to get Chris to "shoot" Chris within a minute. Chris wants to hold against it, but he didn't count on the girls' tricks.

In "The Fantasy" Sven celebrates his birthday. From his friends he gets twelve (!) women "given"to him. But somehow his "little Sven" doesn't want to be a part of the sex party; the "big Sven" fears that, after having lived out his wildest sex fantasy, he could not be aroused any more in the future.

Once again, the three girls are playing with each other. When the boys join them, the girls in "Homo Erectus" develop a crazy idea. Why don't two of the boys play together for the girls' pleasure? Somehow, Sven, Jim and Chris can't warm up to it. But the girls promise rewards!

"The Competition" is set in the camp. A little sex Olympiad. Who do you think will be the winner?

The drawings are professional and recall the Franco-Belgian comic book tradition of a Hergé (Tintin/Tim and Struppi). Fuzzy Donkey follows the "Ligne claire"in style, i. e. the clear line without hatching and shading. Thanks to the publisher, the booklet was printed in colour. The coloring of the drawings brings the figures and characters to life.

So much for the report on the booklet. But who is behind the magazine? The question on this is quite exciting. The search for clues leads to the Canadian Quebec and its local comic scene. After some research only one article about "Fuckfriends" could be found (except the pages of merchants, etc...). On the university side of Quebec, author Catherine Perreault-Lessard spoke about why there is no erotic comic scene in Quebec. It seems that we are a little more cautious on these issues and we must allow ourselves to be reproached for the fact that Europe, and even the USA, which is often regarded as a prudish country, produces somewhat uninhibited erotic material.

Then a name came up. The author and publisher Dominic Lambert is probably behind the project "Fuckfriends". Despite the general concerns about the financial proceeds of a hardcore comic, Fuckfriends was a great success and sold about 5000 copies. The fact that the magazine was largely sold on the American comic book market was probably decisive.

One can only hope that the Canadian comic book world will become a little more courageous in the future and publish more Eros material. They'd have good draughtsmen anyway.

But the subtitle on the cover of "Fuckfriends" probably reflects best the existing situation. With the defending words:"Clean and Funny - Porn for cool people" one wanted to tell people and listeners through the flower: "Look at the book a little loosely. There's nothing wrong with it".

After some further research, the fuzzy donkey style of drawing could be encircled a little bit and is comparable to the artist Jocelyn Houde from Quebec, who died in April 2007. He too was stylistically a "Ligne claire" artist. But without further facts, it would be very daring to say whether Houde is behind Fuzzy Donkey.

In summary, the sad conclusion of a developmental erotic comic scene in Quebec and a misunderstood comic book that deserves to be continued.

Ein interessantes "One-Heft-Wonder" war das englischsprachige Comicheft "Fuckfriends"; veröffentlicht 2003.

Der Comic begeistert augenblicklich mit seiner frischen und frechen Aufmachung, sowie inhaltlich durch ihre liebeswerten Charaktere.

Die Freunde Ingrid, Sven, Jim, Barbara, Stella und Chris sind recht locker miteinander und erfreuen sich am Sex zu jeder Gelegenheit. Ob Zuhause, am Stand oder beim Camping; langweilig wird es der munteren Truppe fast nie.

Das 24-seitige Comicheft beinhaltet fünf Kurzgeschichten.

In "The Initiation" stellt die blonde Barbara ihren neuen Freund Jim vor. Ziemlich schnell wird Jim von Ingrid und Stella auf seine "Standhaftigkeit" getestet.

Am Strand in der Geschichte "The Bet" veranstalten die Frauen eine kleine Wette. Sie wollen versuchen Chris innerhalb von einer Minute "zum Schuss" zu bringen. Chris will dagegen halten, doch er hat nicht mit den Tricks der Mädchen gerechnet.

In "The Fantasy" feiert Sven seinen Geburtstag. Von seinen Freunden bekommt er zwölf (!) Frauen "geschenkt". Doch irgendwie will sein "kleiner Sven" bei der Sexparty nicht mitspielen; befürchtet der "grosse Sven" doch, das ihn, nach dem Ausleben seiner wildesten Sexfantasie, in Zukunft nichts mehr erregen könnte.

Wieder einmal spielen die drei Mädels miteinander rum. Als die Jungs dazustossen, entwickeln die Mädchen in "Homo Erectus" eine verrückte Idee. Warum spielen zwei von den Jungs nicht mal zur Freude der Mädels miteinander? Irgendwie können sich Sven, Jim und Chris dafür nicht erwärmen. Doch die Mädchen versprechen Belohnungen!

Im Zeltlager spielt "The Competition". Eine kleine Sex-Olympiade. Wer wird wohl Sieger werden?

Die Zeichnungen sind professionell und erinnern an die franco-belgische Comictradition eines Hergé (Tintin/Tim und Struppi). Fuzzy Donkey verfolgt stilistisch somit dem "Ligne claire"; also dem klaren Strich ohne Schraffuren und Schattierungen. Dem Verleger sei dank wurde das Heft in Farbe gedruckt. Durch die Kolorierung der Zeichnungen leben die Figuren und Charaktere erst so richtig auf.

Soweit der Bericht zum Heft. Doch wer steckt hinter dem Heft? Die Frage darauf ist durchaus spannend. Die Spurensuche führt in das kanadische Quebec und dessen hiesigen Comic-Szene. Nach etlichen Recherchen konnte nur ein Artikel über "Fuckfriends" gefunden werden (ausgenommen die Seiten von Händlern, usw...). Auf der Universitätsseite von Quebec referierte die Autorin Catherine Perreault-Lessard warum es keine Erotik-Comic-Szene in Quebec gibt. Anscheinend ist man doch etwas zurückhaltender in diesen Fragen und muss sich vorhalten lassen, das Europa und sogar die oft als prüde geltenden USA, etwas unverkrampfter Erotik-Material produzieren.

Dann fiel ein Name. Der Autor und Herausgeber Dominic Lambert steht wohl hinter dem Projekt "Fuckfriends". Trotz der allgemeinen Bedenken um den finanziellen Erlöß eines Hardcore-Comic, war Fuckfriends durchaus ein Erfolg und verkaufte sich rund 5000 Mal. Der Umstand, das das Heft weitgehend auf dem amerikanischen Comicmarkt verkauft wurde, war dabei wohl ausschlaggebend.

Man kann nur hoffen, das die kanadische Comicwelt in Zukunft etwas mutiger wird und mehr Eros-Material veröffentlicht. Gute Zeichner hätten sie allemal.

Doch der Untertitel auf dem Cover von "Fuckfriends" reflektiert wohl am Besten die bestehende Situation. Mit den verteidigenden Worten: "Clean and Funny - Porn for cool people" wollte man den Leuten und Behören wohl durch die Blume mitteilen: "Seht das Heft ein bischen locker. Es ist nichts Schlimmes dabei".

Nach einigen weiteren Recherchen konnte der Fuzzy Donkey Zeichenstil ein wenig eingekreist werden und ist mit dem im April 2007 verstorbenen Künstler Jocelyn Houde aus Quebec vergleichbar. Auch er war stilistisch ein "Ligne claire" Zeichner. Ob Houde hinter Fuzzy Donkey steckt, wäre aber ohne weitere Fakten äußerst wagemutig zu behaupten.

So bleibt Zusammenfassend die traurige Feststellung einer entwicklungsbedürftigen Erotik-Comicszene in Quebec und um ein verkanntes Comicheft, das eine Fortsetzung mehr als verdient hätte.
