John Howard

The American artist John Howard began drawing at a young age. Pretty early on, he took the path towards pornography. He was able to place his first works in various fanzines such as Comic World, Iron Moose or No Sex. In the mid-1980s, Howard and his buddy Scott Phillips published two books under the label of Leapin Weasel, which were supposed to be the breakthrough for both of them: Horny Biker Slut.

From the 1990s onwards, the series of "horny motorcycle sluts" continued with a total of thirteen editions published by Last Gasp. The underground style magazines are all anarchic and wild, dirty, obscene, sweaty and soaked in body fluids and engine oil.

Underground comic lovers will find bitterly nasty accounts about the clichéd myth of the "American Dream" in it. Packaged in satirical, sexist drawings from testosterone soaked biker fantasies. The individual contributions presented themselves with various often seemingly unfinished, amateurish drawing styles and an excessively overloaded layout.

The series includes comics and illustrations by John Howard himself, as well as several of his friends and fellow artists such as Randy Clark, Scott Phillips, Ron Turner, Dave St. Albans and James Burchett,...

The content of the subsequent short series She male Trouble is similar. In 1992 and 1994, one issue was published each; relocated again by Last Gasp. Here, the title-giving heroine is a well-equipped transsexual, who gives and receives all kinds of bodily fluids with pleasure, whereby her playmates are also equipped with enormous genitals. Everything in these pages seems to exaggerate caricature. Only one thing Howard's heroines are not: tender, cuddly or easy to have. His women are strong, independent and demand their fun. What stands out is that female characters are mostly drawn "realistically", while the male characters are usually very cartoon-like.

The "Horny Biker Sluts" made it in a French translation into the last editions of the magazine Bédé X and got a summary in 2002 as an album on the French label Dynamite.

Howard also drew for adult magazines such as Screw and Hustler. For John Stagliano's magazine Buttman, he designed various illustrations and comic strips for about 15 years. In addition to some worthy contributions to exhibitions and vernissages, Howard earns his money mainly with commissions.

Over the years, he has worked as an author and artist for various comic series such as "2000AD (Sci-Fi Special 1981)", "Deathman", "Rip Off Comic", "Nerve", "Ultra Klotz", "Zatjaz",... (1)

According to his homepage, John Howard and colleague Stacey Earley are working together on comic strips which they distribute on their own initiative. Under the label Short & Curly Graphics various books and magazines have already been published, such as the comic book "Badly Drawn Book" as well as "Shame", "Brutal Girlfriend", "Freaky!" "Sexy monster!" or "No more Envy".

In addition to his artistic contributions on paper, Howard also briefly sniffed into the porn video business and was responsible for titles such as "Tales from the Crack" and "Vault of Whores".

"Politically incorrect even by the loose standards of underground comics, the Horny Biker Slut series returns with a vengeance.... With over 200,000 copies sold of the original comic book, John Howard’s larger-than-life images of pumped bikers, augmented women, and pushy she-males in a world of wretched excess have won him wide acclaim. " (2)

"…His stories are well written, funny and provocative. The artwork is really hilarious and over the top. Everything is so exaggerated and in your face. The stories are really "street level" and believable. …" (3)

John Howard

Alles in diesen Seiten scheint karikaturesk übersteigert.
